Madame exporta as suas Soirées para a Sérvia
The Madame Soirées are a series of events that have gained a huge cult following in Lisbon. Every Friday for the past two months, Madame has invited the finest DJs Lisbon has to offer to play DJ sets at the Miradouro S. Pedro de Alcântara which overlooks Portugal’s beautiful capital city. From 18:00 until 21:00, the music doesn’t stop and these events have provided Lisbon’s party people with a great way to kick off the weekends. With no fixed style, the Madame Soirées have hosted DJ sets that have spanned a wide variety of electronic music genres from house, to techno, even drum and bass! Now Madame will be bringing this concept to the Exit Festival’s V.I.P zone on the 9th of July. Music will be provided by two of Portugal’s most groundbreaking dance music acts - the powerhouse duo known as Stereo Addiction and Portugal’s DMC Scratch champion DJ Ride. The three artists will also be taking Madame & Lumin’s “O Baile” to the Suba Stage on the 10th of July alongside :papercutz and Rui da Silva.

“O Baile” está a chegar novamente a Londres
There are only two weeks to go until Madame & Lumin’s “O Baile” returns to London. The event is going down on Friday the 2nd of July with a stellar lineup and an awesome venue. The evening will pit two of portugal’s most interesting underground projects, :papercutz and Octa Push (both of whom will be headlining the event), against two London-based electronica whiz-kids, Rival Consoles and Missaw, and Matthew Hawtin, a member of the legendary berlin-based Minus record label family, whose unique brand of ambient infused techno music will round out the proceedings.
:papercutz are a young band from Oporto, Portugal, that sprang from the imagination of lead songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Bruno Miguel. After a brief period as a solo project, a series of collaborators were welcomed into the fold such as current vocalist Marcela Freitas and visual artist Susana Maia. The band’s sublime blend of acoustic textures and electronica has seen them release their debut album “Lylac” on Canadian label Apegenine Recordings, win an award at London’s prestigious People’s Music Awards, gain praise from BBC presenter Anne Nightingale and XFM’s Eddy Temple-Morris, play at one of the world’s most prestigious music festivals SXSW, win second place in the Dance/Electronica category in the International Sonwriting Competition (whose jury includes such well respected musicians as The Cure’s Robert Smith).
:papercutz will be playing in London on the 2nd of July at the Islington Metal Works, alongside one of Lisbon’s hottest dance music projects, Octa Push, whose unique sunshine infused dubstep has seen them go down a storm at such venues as the legendary fabric, festivals like Sonar and Glade, among many others, and has earned them the respect of luminaries such as Thom Yorke and Buraka Som Sistema. The unstoppable duo will once again grace “O Baile” with their highly eclectic and energetic live act.

“O Baile” regressa a Lisboa em Setembro
Madame and Lumin are working away to bring their “O Baile” concept back to Lisbon in a big way. They have chosen Saturday the 25th of September as the date and, as promised, the headliner of the event will be one of the world’s most respected and influential electronic music producers - Nathan Fake.
The young brit is one of the figureheads of James Holden’s notourious Border Community record label and his explosive live act strikes a perfect balance between prisitine, uplifting melody and raw dancefloor power that is sure to get any crowd moving.
Support will come from Portugal’s grooviest DJ Duo Stereo Addiction, up and coming Lisbon-based techno maverick Twofold and a second headlining slot by an international artist is yet to be announced. More info will be released as soon as we get it.

Como é já sabido, no dia 2 de Julho, “O Baile” regressa a Londres com actuações de dois projectos que já estão a dar que falar fora de Portugal. :papercutz que são uma banda com origem no Porto e cujo som, marcado pela utilização de instrumentos mais tradicionais misturado com texturas electrónicas, tem feito as delícias da crítica estrangeira com um prémio no People’s Choice Award em Londres e outro no International Songwriting Competition e os irmãos Octa Push . “O Baile” vai ter a sua primeira grande internacionalização em Julho deste ano, através de uma comitiva de artistas portugueses, num palco no Exit Festival. Este festival acontece na Sérvia, na cidade de Novi Sad e é o mais interessante a acontecer no Leste da Europa.

O festival decorre entre os dias 8 e 11 de Julho, e Sábado dia 10, foi o escolhido pela organização do festival para apresentar “O Baile” ao publico.

“O Baile” will take it’s first steps towards internationalization in July of this year. Madame and Lumin have handpicked a comittee of Portuguese artists to storm one of the many stages at this year’s Exit Festival which will go down in the city of Novi Sad in Serbia and is by far the most interesting event of it’s type in eastern europe.
The artists chosen to represent the best of Portugal’s underground music scene, who will join a lineup that already includes such international superstars as Royksopp, LCD Soundsystem, The Chemical Brothers, Ricardo Villalobos, Josh Wink and Moderat, are Papercutz, Rui Da Silva, Stereo Addiction and a fourth name that will be announced shortly.
The Exit festival will go down between the 8th and 11th of July. Saturday the 10th of July was chosen by the organizers as the day when the artists chosen by Madame and Lumin will have their chance to show an international audience the fascinating underbelly of Portugal’s underground music scene. Por razões alheias à vontade das organizadoras d´ “O Baile” , o evento marcado para dia 5 de Junho em Lisboa foi cancelado. Para quem estava à espera da actuação de Nathan Fake pode ficar descansado pois já está confirmada, uma vinda do artista até ao final do ano de 2010.
“O Baile” returns to London
After a succesful Lisbon run, Friday the 2nd of April marks the return of “O Baile” to London, and Madame and Lumin have a very special evening planned. The lineup will consist of two major portuguese acts handpicked from among the finest Lisbon’s awesome underground scene has to offer.
First up will be Teratron, a new project whose debut album was considered the 3rd best album of the year by popular website cotonete, whose video shot to the top of the charts on MTV Portugal, and whose earth-shaking live act has been a massive success helping them secure warm up gigs for such international sensations as Steve Aoki. After a quick listen to their record, the girls behind “O Baile” couldn’t resist bringing them to London.
Following on from the new boys will be Portugal’s favourite female DJ duo, Heartbreakerz. The two girls have floored clubbers from Lisbon to Paris with their sensual, unique sound which is a deadly blend of techno, tech house and electro. Their flawless mixing skills and uncanny knack for knowing exactly what a crowd wants at any given time has seen them play at every big club and festival in Portugal, the infamous Always Fridays night at The Egg, La Bellevilloise in Paris and has even secured them a spot at this year’s Rock In Rio in Lisbon alongside Paul Ritch, Speedy J and Green Velvet.
As we enter a new decade, Madame and Lumin decided it was time for a change, and have now moved the “O Baile” events to the amazing Islington Metal Works in Angel. Built in the late 19th century this unbelievable venue has three floors and has hosted everything from concerts, to art exhibitions and a whole host of wild parties. De seguida, as Heartbreakerz prometem trazer à cabine deste Baile a sua mistura explosiva de tech house, techno e electro que tanto furor fez nos clubes e festivais de Portugal. Com o início de uma nova década, Madame e Lumin decidiram que estava na hora de “mudar de ares”, por isso procuraram um novo espaço para as edições londrinas d’ O Baile de 2010. Acertaram em cheio com o Islington Metal Works. Construído no fim do século XIX esta venue tem sido local de concertos, exposições de arte e festas controversas. Mas as suas quatro paredes nunca viram nada como O Baile.

Após um fim de semana extremamente cansativo que incluiu passear vários artistas na cidade de Lisboa, soundchecks, festejos e ressacas, a equipa por trás do “Baile” vs. Kali Records têm o prazer de disponibilizar uma espécie de “Best Of” da noite de sábado dia 13 de Fevereiro. “O Baile“, the events hosted and promoted by Madame and Lumin, have seen a dramatic increase in hype and notoriety. Starting small at the beginning of last year at London venues such as Sketch or Bar Music Hall, and primarily aimed at showcasing the best music spawned from the portuguese underground, the word spread quickly that something special was brewing in some of the UK capital’s hippest nightspots. In November, the girls brought the party to Lisbon in a big way with a huge venue and stunning lineup. It was an unbridled success. In 2010, a resolution was made: “O Baile” would happen simultaneously in London and Lisbon. To celebrate this fact, Madame and Lumin decided to set up a website to help spread the word for their awesome parties. O Baile vs. Kali Records
As mentes por trás de “O Baile” foram responsáveis pelas mais memoráveis festas de 2009. Em Londres, clubes como o Sketch e o Bar Music Hall , foram invadidos pelo som português de nomes como Octa Push, Stereo Addiction e Tetine. De volta a Portugal “O Baile” convidou, para tocar em Lisboa músicos como Micachu & The Shapes e Jon Hopkins. Em Novembro a festa de anos da Madame foi inesquecível. Agora estamos de volta para mais danças. Desta vez é o aniversário da Lumin e da Joana e ninguém pode perder a festa.
2010 promete trazer ao “Baile” nomes frescos e excitantes misturados com artistas já estabelecidos, como é o caso do próximo evento. Para começar o ano em grande, “O Baile” decidiu juntar-se a uma das maiores e mais respeitadas promotoras de Lisboa - a Kalimodjo. No sábado dia 13 de Fevereiro, fim de semana de carnaval e véspera de S. Valentim, a equipa vai ocupar o LX Factory com “O Baile” vs. Kali Records, um evento épico que vai funcionar em duas áreas diferentes para dar espaço a tanta música - o Faktory e a Sala das Colunas.
A lista de artistas convidados é fora do comum. Os cabeças de cartaz são os Radioclit, cujo último disco “The Very Best Album”fez a delícia da crítica inglesa, os Plaid, um dos grandes nomes da música electrónica associados à editora Warp Records e o jovem produtor e DJ americano B.Rich
Mas não é tudo, o aquecimento vai contar com vários representantes do melhor que se faz a nível de música electrónica em Portugal - DJ Ride, Octa Push, Drop Top, Zombies For Money, Zeder, Twofold, Nokin, Quayola, Refill e Jameson Yeah. Saturday the 13th of February is the chosen date for a truly remarkable event, which will surely go down as one of the greatest parties of 2010. Madame & Lumin have joined forces with like-minded promoters Kalimodjo to bring you a unique evening of music - Baile vs. Kali Records.
The team will be taking over LX Factory in Alcântara, as an event of this magnitude requires two venues - Faktory and the huge Sala das Colunas. On the weekend of Carnaval, and in the spirit of Portugal’s cheekiest holiday, the space will be sparkled in red for the best Carnaval and Valentines Day Ball Lisbon has never seen.
The lineup has to be seen to be believed and will include Radioclit, Plaid and B.Rich as the headlining acts.
The support acts have been hand picked by Madame, Lumin and the Kalimodjo crew from among the finest Portugal has to offer and include DJ Ride, Octa Push, Drop Top, Zombies For Money, Zeder, Twofold, Nokin, Quayola, Refill and Jameson Yeah.

O Baile returns to London in 2010
After making it’s Lisbon debut in November and with a second event in the same city in February, Madame and Lumin felt it was high time to bring “O Baile” back to it’s city of origin, London.
On Friday the 2nd of April, the girls will be bringing the party back to the UK with a new venue and two great names from the Portuguese underground – Heartbreakerz, Lisbon’s favourite female DJ duo, and Teratron a new dance floor destroying project featuring members of Portugal’s biggest hip hop crew Da Weasel.
The event will be held at The Islington Metal Works, accessed via a discreet entrance just behind Angel tube station it has played host to the hippest art exhibitions, concerts and even Spike Lee’s private parties.

Teratron é um novo projecto orientado para as pistas de dança, formado por dois ex-membros dos Da Weasel e descritos da seguinte forma “o adn de Afrika Bambaataa com a irreverência de Tommy Lee, a insanidade de Prodigy com a frescura da turma Ed Banger, os olhos dos Chemical Brothers, o nariz de Michael Mayer, a boca de Dita Von Teese”. ..
A Islington Metal Works fica por trás da estação de metro em Angel e já foi local de variadíssimos concertos, exposições e festas privadas do realizador Spike Lee.

The events hosted and promoted by Madame and Lumin are growing more notorious every month, especially now that they will be happening in London and Lisbon. A primeira edição do “Baile” em Lisboa superou todas as expectativas das organizadoras e gerou ainda alguns momentos inesperados como o de Mica, a vocalista de Micachu & The Shapes a passar discos de musica dos anos 80 no andar de cima do clube.
O ambiente foi de festa até às 07h e nós temos as fotos , os videos e os sets de alguns dos artistas. Os Djs sets dos Stereo Addiction e Heartbreakerz estão agora disponíveis online.

The first “Baile” in Lisbon was an unmitigated success, way beyond the expectations of the organisers and the evening had it’s fair share of surprises such as Mica, the singer for Micachu & The Shapes, taking to the decks on the clubs’ second floor to play a dj set filled with classic 80’s tunes.

Temos mais novidades sobre “O Baile” no The Loft em Lisboa, que acontece já este Sábado, dia 21.
Em primeiro lugar, temos uma nova contratação na equipa de artistas: Mary B – entre várias outras facetas é responsável pelo famoso programa “Dama e o Vagabundo” da Rádio Oxigénio e já consta no seu currículo ter actuado na primeira parte dos concertos de Nitin Sawhney e Thievery Corporation. Mary B vai tocar no andar de cima , fechando assim o grupo de artistas de luxo que compõem “O Baile”.
Para quem quer tentar a sorte, há passatempos em vários websites, que oferecem bilhetes para esta grande festa de Sábado, nomeadamente no Cotonete, Rua de Baixo, Festivais de Verão e no grupo de facebook da Defesa. Voltamos a reforçar que os bilhetes vão estar à venda apenas na porta no próprio dia, a partir das 22h. A entrada custa apenas 15€ com direito a 1 bebida. A Vinha da Defesa vai oferece um copo de vinho das 22h às 23h.

With only a few days to go until the first “O Baile” in Lisbon, we have some last minute info for you. First up Mary B, of Portugal’s Rádio Oxigénio, will be manning the decks on the second floor of The Loft, rounding out a truly awesome line up that includes Micachu & The Shapes, Jon Hopkins, Voltek, N>E>D, Quayola, Twofold, Heartbreakerz and Stereo Addiction. You can now enter various online competitions to win tickets to the bash, on the following websites Cotonete, Rua de Baixo, Festivais de Verão and on Defesa’s Facebook group. Tickets will be on sale at the door from 22:00 onwards and will be 15€ which gets you one free drink and entrance to venue. Vinha da Defesa will be serving a glass of wine to all guests between 22:00 and 23:00.

O Baile has a Soundcloud page!
In order to give you a small taste of what’s to come, the organisers of the upcoming “O Baile” in Lisbon have set up a Soundcloud page where they uploaded DJ sets from the artists who will play at the event. Micachu & The Shapes to play at Lisbon’s first “Baile”
On Saturday, the 21st of November, The Loft in Lisbon will host an event that has been all the rage in London. “O Baile“, a club night that was born from the imaginations of Mariana Duarte Silva and Joana Seguro, is a monthly showcase for Portugal’s cutting edge underground music. As the english capital is one of the most multicultural cities on the planet, the evenings’ concept evolved to include musicians from all over the world. ” O Baile” has had some of the freshest young talent in their DJ booth including Octapush (who were subsequently invited to play at Fabric and at the Glade Festival), Bart Cruz, Gustavo Rodrigues, Bailarico Sofisticado, Twofold, and Quayola, among others.In November, and coinciding with Madame’s birthday bash, “O Baile” will be heading over to Lisbon with a lineup that has to be seen to be believed. We joint forces with Berlin’s Little Big Agency to bring to London so of their most exciting up and coming artists. First up is Micachu & The Shapes an english band who have had the critics enraptured with their stunningly original pop cacophony - they have been credited with releasing the record of the year and being the future of Pop music. Next a young artist whose fans include the legendary Brian Eno, Herbie Hancock and Coldplay (whose latest record, “Viva La Vida”, he helped produce) - the young Jon Hopkins will be bringing his unique electronica stylings and awesome live act to Lisbon’s first “Baile”. Tim Exile, Warp Records latest goldenboy, will showcase his glitchy take on dance music in a live act that will surely add an excentric flavour to the proceedings.
AS if all this wasn’t enough, the night will be rounded off by DJ sets from renowned italian visual artist Quayola, and from Portugal’s hottest DJ duos - Stereo Addiction and Heartbreakerz who will be sharing the booth with Twofold, the latest signing to Madame Management’s roster. The site chosen to host this event, which promises to be the party of the year, is The Loft in Lisbon.

Micachu & The Shapes no “Baile” em Lisboa
No Sábado dia 21 de Novembro Lisboa recebe, da capital inglesa, um evento que tem feito furor na noite londrina: “O Baile“, projecto que nasceu pela mão de Mariana Duarte Silva e Joana Seguro. As duas amigas tinham como ideia um showcase mensal para os novos talentos mais interessantes do underground português em Londres. Naturalmente, sendo Londres das cidades mais multiculturais do planeta, o conceito evoluiu para incluir também artistas internacionais. “O Baile” já teve como convidados um vasto leque de jovens talentos incluíndo Octa Push (que foram convidados, logo de seguida a actuar no Fabric e no Glade Festival), Bart Cruz, Gustavo Rodrigues, Bailarico Sofisticado, Twofold, Quayola, entre outros.
Em Novembro, e coincidindo com o aniversário da Madame, “O Baile” muda-se para terras lusas com um line up de luxo. Em primeiro lugar está Micachu & The Shapes, um conjunto inglês que tem feito as delícias da crítica nacional e internacional , o jornal “O Público” referiu-se a este projecto como sendo “autores de um dos discos do ano” e o “presente da pop”.
De seguida um artista que conta como fãs o lendário Brian Eno, Herbie Hancock e os Coldplay (a quem inclusivamente ajudou a produzir o seu último disco “Viva La Vida”) - o jovem Jon Hopkins vai trazer ao primeiro “Baile” lisboeta a sua fusão única de electrónica e texturas mais tradicionais em Live act.
Tim Exile é o novo coqueluche da notória Warp Records, as suas sonoridades ecléticas e fascinantes, também em Live Act, vão trazer um toque de excentricidade à noite.
Juntando-se a este cartaz extraordinário, “O Baile” ainda vai contar com DJ sets do visual artist italiano Quayola, e das duplas portuguesas do momento Stereo Addiction e Heartbreakerz que vão partilhar a cabine com Twofold, a cara do novo sangue electrónico em Portugal.
O local escolhido para este evento, que promete ser a festa do ano, é o The Loft em Lisboa.
