O Baile

front_Inspired by the recent hit of the “Summer in the Cities” parties at Plastic People in July,  Lumin and Madame prepare to throw a series of nights to remember. They are now proud to present…O Baile

O Baile represents the best of underground Portuguese music happening in London right now. From Bands to Djs and spanning many other art forms, O Baile is a new platform to explore exciting cultural manifestations. Although mainly showcasing emerging talent from Portugal it will also incorporate diverse multi-national artists. Portuguese Fado and the success of more traditional artists like Marisa and Madredeus have exported Portuguese musical traditions with a contemporary twist. The breakthrough across the world of Buraka Som Sistema has given us a glimpse of what other talent is hiding in the underground scene in Lisbon and across the country.

Bands like Gala Drop and Octa Push are starting to grab the attention of the British press and other acts from Buraka’s own label Enchufada are ready for crossing over.

O Baile started as a platform to present talent from Portugal to a London audience. Live Music and Djs from Kuduro, Hip Hop, Fado, Electronica, House, Dubstep, Deconstructed Fado, Rock, Pop and anything else they fancy. Mixed with Food, Fashion, Art, Design, Grafitti and all things Portuguese.

The first Baile happened on 6th of February of 2009.  For the first event they invited Twofold, Papas and Quayola as the Djs to come in from the cold for.  The second event was on the 3rd April and included Octa Push, a live project from Portugal. A duo of producers that mesh Techno, Garage, Ragga and were chosen for the Red Bull Music Academy this year.

Since then there have been various hugely succesful “O Baile” events including, the Lisbon debut in November which was massive and whose line-up included noise pop pioneers, Bjork’s favourite band, Micachu & The Shapes and electronica whiz kid Jon Hopkins (who was responsible for assisting Brian Eno in producing Coldplay’s latest record). For 2010 Madame and Lumin have already lined up a whole slew of dates in London and Lisbon, so stay tuned for more news.

Até breve!
