“O Baile“, the events hosted and promoted by Madame and Lumin, have seen a dramatic increase in hype and notoriety. Starting small at the beginning of last year at London venues such as Sketch or Bar Music Hall, and primarily aimed at showcasing the best music spawned from the portuguese underground, the word spread quickly that something special was brewing in some of the UK capital’s hippest nightspots. In November, the girls brought the party to Lisbon in a big way with a huge venue and stunning lineup. It was an unbridled success. In 2010, a resolution was made: “O Baile” would happen simultaneously in London and Lisbon. To celebrate this fact, Madame and Lumin decided to set up a website to help spread the word for their awesome parties. O Stones foi uma das discotecas mais emblemáticas da noite lisboeta ao longo dos anos 80, no entanto, esta sexta-feira, dia 29 de Janeiro, vai servir como ponto de encontro entre dois dos djs mais respeitados do underground português - Gustavo Rodrigues e Felix Da Cat. O espaço é pequeno por isso cheguem cedo porque será certamente uma noite memorável.

As mentes por trás de “O Baile” foram responsáveis pelas mais memoráveis festas de 2009. Em Londres, clubes como o Sketch e o Bar Music Hall , foram invadidos pelo som português de nomes como Octa Push, Stereo Addiction e Tetine. De volta a Portugal “O Baile” convidou, para tocar em Lisboa músicos como Micachu & The Shapes e Jon Hopkins. Em Novembro a festa de anos da Madame foi inesquecível. Agora estamos de volta para mais danças. Desta vez é o aniversário da Lumin e da Joana e ninguém pode perder a festa.

2010 promete trazer ao “Baile” nomes frescos e excitantes misturados com artistas já estabelecidos, como é o caso do próximo evento. Para começar o ano em grande, “O Baile” decidiu juntar-se a uma das maiores e mais respeitadas promotoras de Lisboa - a Kalimodjo. No sábado dia 13 de Fevereiro, fim de semana de carnaval e véspera de S. Valentim, a equipa vai ocupar o LX Factory com “O Baile” vs. Kali Records, um evento épico que vai funcionar em duas áreas diferentes para dar espaço a tanta música - o Faktory e a Sala das Colunas.

A lista de artistas convidados é fora do comum. Os cabeças de cartaz são os Radioclit, cujo último disco “The Very Best Album”fez a delícia da crítica inglesa, os Plaid, um dos grandes nomes da música electrónica associados à editora Warp Records e o jovem produtor e DJ americano B.Rich

Mas não é tudo, o aquecimento vai contar com vários representantes do melhor que se faz a nível de música electrónica em Portugal - DJ Ride, Octa Push, Drop Top, Zombies For Money, Zeder, Twofold, Nokin, Quayola, Refill e Jameson Yeah. Não se esqueçam de reservar a data, porque esta vai ser, sem dúvida, uma das grandes festas de 2010.

Saturday the 13th of February is the chosen date for a truly remarkable event, which will surely go down as one of the greatest parties of 2010. Madame & Lumin have joined forces with like-minded promoters Kalimodjo to bring you a unique evening of music - Baile vs. Kali Records.

The team will be taking over LX Factory in Alcântara, as an event of this magnitude requires two venues - Faktory and the huge Sala das Colunas. On the weekend of Carnaval, and in the spirit of Portugal’s cheekiest holiday, the space will be sparkled in red for the best Carnaval and Valentines Day Ball Lisbon has never seen.

The lineup has to be seen to be believed and will include Radioclit, Plaid and B.Rich as the headlining acts.

The support acts have been hand picked by Madame, Lumin and the Kalimodjo crew from among the finest Portugal has to offer and include DJ Ride, Octa Push, Drop Top, Zombies For Money, Zeder, Twofold, Nokin, Quayola, Refill and Jameson Yeah.

So make sure to save the date, because “O Baile” vs. Kali Records is shaping up to be one of the greatest parties of 2010!

Da Providers, one of Portugal’s most respected promoters, have announced a residency at Cascais nightclub Jezebel. Over the coming months they will be bringing you a whole host of surprises, with international names to boot. Kicking off on Friday the 5th of February, the guys have asked Stereo Addiction and Heartbreakerz to join resident duo Bart Cruz & Henriq in a DJ battle of epic proportions. Six DJs, one booth, only one DJ duo will remain standing - so make sure to save the date, because this is one party you can’t afford to miss.

Formed by Andy Turner and Ed Handley in 1989, Plaid is one of the most innovative British electronica bands. Influenced by synth pop artists such as Human League, Ultravox and Howard Jones, the duo started producing music together in the early 90’s after being involved in the British early rave scene.

In 1997, Plaid released their first album for the reputed Warp Records label “Not for Threes” featuring the collaboration of Bjork, Tim Hutton and Mara Carlyle. The album was followed by the Warp album releases “Rest Proof Clockwork” (1999) and the double-CD anthology “Trainer” (2000). In 2001, Plaid open it’s scope with the album “Double Figure” which featured influences from numerous music genres including techno, hip hop, ambient, drum ‘n’ bass, disco, post rock, jazz rock and synth pop.

The duo will headline “O Baile” vs. Kali Records on Saturday the 13th of February, marking their return to portuguese soil after a seven year absence.

Andy Turner e Ed Handley juntaram-se em 1989 para formar o projecto Plaid, uma das bandas mais influentes de música electrónica dos últimos anos.

Influênciados pelos sintetizadores dos Human League, Ultravox e Howard Jones, a dupla começou a produzir música no início dos anos 90 e eram nessa altura a referência do movimento Rave.

Em 1997 lançam o seu album de estreia “Not For Threes” pela Warp Records, que inclui colaborações com Bjork, Tim Hutton e Mara Carlyle. Após uma série de lançamentos na Warp, editaram o que é considerado até hoje a sua obra prima “Double Figure” em 2001, criando assim a ponte entre vários estilos musicais como techno, hip hop, drum & bass, ambient e jazz.

Radioclit are a British DJ/production duo who refer to their style as ghettopop, that is, a melange of Dirty South rap, Baltimore club, British grime, funk carioca, and straight dance-pop along with various African dance-pop styles. Comprised of Johan Karlberg and Etienne Tron (aka DJ Tron), Radioclit got their start as a DJ tandem in the London borough of Hackney, where they reside. They have remixed tracks by a number of artists, including Alphabeat ,Brodinski , and most notably Bonde do Rolê. Meanwhile, Tron founded his own label, Uppercuts, on which the duo released Hard Working Class, Vol. 1 (2007), a compilation of their production and remix work to date. Radioclit also began working with Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya and in 2009 released “The Very Best Album” to unanimous praise from UK critics from NME to Uncut and Mojo and nominated for best album and best song at the IMA awards.

They will be headlining “O Baile” vs. Kali Records at LX Factory in Lisbon, on Saturday the 13th of February alongside fellow londoners Plaid.

Os Radioclit são um dupla de DJs e produtores que classificam o seu estilo como “Ghettopop”, uma fusão eclética de House, Funk Carioca, Hip-Hop, Grime e Pop com influências africanas. Formados em Londres em 2004, Johan Karlberg e Etienne Tron (aka DJ Tron) já remixaram artistas tão diversos como Alphabeat, Brodinski e Bonde do Rolê. Em 2007 começaram a colaborar com o vocalista Esau Mwamwaya.
Os frutos desta união foram lançados em 2009 sob a forma de um disco com o nome “The Very Best Album” que fez as delícias da imprensa inglêsa, recebendo uma nomeação para melhor album de 2009 nos prémios IMA.

After making it’s Lisbon debut in November and with a second event in the same city in February, Madame and Lumin felt it was high time to bring “O Baile” back to it’s city of origin, London.

On Friday the 2nd of April, the girls will be bringing the party back to the UK with a new venue and two great names from the Portuguese underground – Heartbreakerz, Lisbon’s favourite female DJ duo, and Teratron a new dance floor destroying project featuring members of Portugal’s biggest hip hop crew Da Weasel.

The event will be held at The Islington Metal Works, accessed via a discreet entrance just behind Angel tube station it has played host to the hippest art exhibitions, concerts and even Spike Lee’s private parties.

Após o sucesso da estreia lisboeta em Novembro do ano passado e com o próximo evento a ocupar a LX Factory em Fevereiro, Madame e Lumin decidiram que chegou a hora de regressar às origens e marcar mais uma festa em terras de sua majestade.

Sexta-feira dia 2 de Abril, “O Baile” está de volta a Londres num novo espaço - Islington Metal Works, e com dois grandes talentos da cena portuguesa – Teratron e Heartbreakerz.

Teratron é um novo projecto orientado para as pistas de dança, formado por dois ex-membros dos Da Weasel e descritos da seguinte forma “o adn de Afrika Bambaataa com a irreverência de Tommy Lee, a insanidade de Prodigy com a frescura da turma Ed Banger, os olhos dos Chemical Brothers, o nariz de Michael Mayer, a boca de Dita Von Teese”. ..

A Islington Metal Works fica por trás da estação de metro em Angel e já foi local de variadíssimos concertos, exposições e festas privadas do realizador Spike Lee.
